One of the trickiest parts about looking through resumes, cover letters, and portfolios is trying to get a feel for the person behind all the paper. We all try to make ourselves sound as good as possible. Dish washers become hydro technicians, retail workers become customer service specialists, and the most minor typo somehow signifies a lack of attention to detail. I thought it would be valuable to put that all aside and let my human qualities show.

I am the kind of person who is curious about nearly everything and loves to learn. I am largely self-taught and enjoy passing my knowledge on to others. A big part of my work at every job has been teaching others regardless of whether it was in the job description.

Technology fascinates me

I have worked on multi-million dollar satellite communications systems, but those big systems do not prevent me from becoming curious about smaller things and taking them apart. When I was in elementary school, I had those shoes with the blinking lights in the heels. Eventually they wore out, and I received new shoes, but that gave me justification for cutting the lights out of the heels to find out how they worked.

Expression fascinates me

At different times, I’ve taken up painting, drawing, poetry, woodworking, and dozens of other hobbies.I do not claim to be great at any of these things, but our ability to express ourselves as human beings through so many methods is truly intriguing. If I could settle on just one, my skill would be amazing, but I would be a lot less interesting.

The world fascinates me

From the miniscule ants below to the massive wingspan of the Golden Eagles above, the life on this planet is incredible. My personal favorite animal is the elusive snow leopard. We have streams, forests, and mountains that can melt away our concerns and fill our lungs with the freshest of air and in every direction are humans with wildly different backgrounds, experiences, and personalities.

Oh yeah, personality

About that personality… When I am out of my element, I become quieter and listen those those with experience, soaking up as much as I can. When I am in my element, I try to share all that I know. I’m snarky and sarcastic. I like to-do lists that are written on paper because crossing something off is satisfying. I am calm, easy-going, and find humor in most things. I find that challenges make something more enjoyable and more rewarding. I am always looking for new things to learn, new skills to master.
